Participants To Discuss Regional Ties At Asian Forum

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Leading political and academic figures from around Asia will gather at the 19th International Conference on The Future of Asia Thursday and Friday in Tokyo to discuss regional partnerships.

The annual forum, organized by Nikkei Inc. and the Japan Center for Economic Research, is this year titled "Asia's Search for Steps towards Stronger Ties and Integration." Participants will discuss issues such as tensions in East Asia, prospects for China under the administration of new President Xi Jinping and the future economic integration of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Lee Hsien Loong, prime minister of Singapore, will start the forum at around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, delivering a keynote speech.

Other speakers include Yingluck Shinawatra, prime minister of Thailand, and Mahathir bin Mohamad, former Malaysian prime minister, as well as Bank of Japan Gov. Haruhiko Kuroda.
