Asia Peace Essential To World: Philippine Foreign Minister

Thursday, May 23, 2013

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Countries in Asia must resolve their disputes peacefully, given the region's growing importance politically and economically, said Albert del Rosario, foreign minister of the Philippines.

Relations between China, Japan and South Korea will be central to enduring stability in Asia, del Rosario said at the 19th International Conference on The Future of Asia held Thursday in Tokyo.

"Cooperation and cordial ties among the 'Plus-Three' are integral to the future of Asia," del Rosario said. "These have far-reaching implications for regional stability and the larger region's growth prospects."

Economic development in the Philippines can contribute to the region's overall development, and Manila is making efforts to ensure further growth by improving its social infrastructure, del Rosario said.

"We are doubling our efforts to remedy remaining constraints to growth, to boost productivity and competitiveness, and to improve our business climate," he said.
