TOKYO (Nikkei)--Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai at a forum in Tokyo Thursday said that climate change will pose a serious challenge to sustainable growth.

He delivered the speech at the Future of Asia conference, jointly hosted by The Nikkei and the Japan Center for Economic Research.

Hai said the Great East Japan Earthquake created an opportunity to look into crisis management and pointed to the importance of crisis response strategies.

Given Vietnam's vulnerability to climate change and possible damage to the country's rice farming sector, Hai said the response to climate change needs to be reinforced throughout all of Southeast Asia.
