No Problem With Japan's TPP Delay: NZ Foreign Minister

Thursday, May 26, 2011

TOKYO (Nikkei)--New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully said Thursday that he hopes Japan will make sufficient progress in the near future so it can join the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade negotiations.

Speaking at the Future of Asia conference in Tokyo, McCully said that discussions on whether or not Japan should participate in the TPP talks have been delayed in the wake of the March 11 disaster.

But he also said that this delay in the decision-making process would not be a disadvantage for Japan.
