Friday, May 21, 2010

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Manickam Supperamaniam, Malaysia's former ambassador to the WTO, said during a panel discussion in Tokyo Friday he does not expect that the Doha round of multilateral trade liberalization talks will be successfully concluded by the year's end.

He cited the fact that some advanced countries have yet to demonstrate strong political resolve to bring the talks to a successful conclusion. He thus expressed dissatisfaction with the negotiating stance of developed countries.

His remarks came at the Future of Asia forum, which is sponsored by Nikkei Inc. and closes the same day.

Titles of speakers, names of companies, etc., were correct as of the time when the forum was held.
