Friday, May 21, 2010

TOKYO (Nikkei)--No alternative to the Japan-U.S. alliance exists, Zhu Jianrong, a Chinese-born professor of international relations at Japan's Toyo Gakuen University, said Friday at a Tokyo forum.

During a panel discussion at the 16th International Conference on the Future of Asia, Zhu said, "The U.S. presence in East Asia is advantageous for China's economic development."

Down the road, an "equal and even" security framework also including nations other than Japan and the U.S., such as China and South Korea, will be needed, he added.

Titles of speakers, names of companies, etc., were correct as of the time when the forum was held.
