Thursday, May 20, 2010

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Gao Jifan, chairman and chief executive of China's Trina Solar Ltd., said during a panel discussion here Thursday cooperation between the public and private sectors will become even more important for promoting solar energy because such partnerships will accelerate technological innovation and reduce costs.

Asian countries such as Japan, China and Malaysia have a competitive edge in low-cost solar energy technology, Gao said. But he hastened to add that there is plenty of room for further growth, given that solar energy only met 10% of Asia's energy needs in 2009.
