TOKYO (Nikkei)--Jiro Nakamura, a director at Nippon Express Co. (9062), said during a panel discussion at an economic forum here on Friday that land transport is growing in importance relative to air and sea transport in Asia.

Nakamura said Nippon Express has built an extensive 7,000km network across Asia, but conceded that it could be further improved by cutting shipping costs and other steps.

The director said the company plans to expand the transport network further across Japan, China and the ASEAN member states.
